Charlie Maynard who records in his new solo project as MAYN is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, obsessed with the surreal. West coast born and residing in Los Angeles, Maynard has long been inspired by storytelling and nostalgia through visuals and film. Top inspirations include the cinematic photography of Gregory Crewdson illuminating the eerie moments between catastrophic events and brushes with the unknown—and Stanley Kubrick’s play throughout his films with the fringes of reality and the space-time continuum. His music is largely instrumental, but with the intention of pulling the listener into an alternate plane rich with images of starry skies, glowing horizons, fractured pools of reflection, and surreal forms staring back. A drummer before anything else, Maynard weaves emotive textures complimented with lush synthesizer sounds that spill over hypnotic drum and percussion samples to create complex sonic tapestries without losing sight of the groove.
